Join alumni from around the world and participate in the third annual Hope from Coast 2 Coast (HFC2C) virtual run! The event takes place the week leading up to THON (February 10-17, 2019). Our mission is to bridge the gap between THON Weekend and alumni around the world to raise awareness and funds supporting THON in the fight to conquer childhood cancer.
Courage Team will fundraise or run/walk 1 mile. Everyone is invited to be a part of the HFC2C community; this event is not only for experienced runners. You can choose to walk a mile with a friend or spread hope and awareness while fundraising for the cause without going anywhere.
Honesty Team will run or walk 5 kilometers, or 3.1 miles.
Strength Team has the entire week to run 46 miles, as Penn State Dance Marathon dancers stand for 46 hours.
Wisdom Team will run 100 miles, the approximate distance between Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital and Penn State University in University Park, PA.
*** These distances can be completed individually or as a team among friends, family, or fellow Penn State alumni from around the country.
Yes, the event is virtual, but the connection and community are real. Once you select a team, you will receive a detailed email with the miles tracking app, fundraising information, and an invitation to the HFC2C participant Facebook page. There you'll find fundraising ideas, training tips, and inspirational stories.
To build community in alumni hotspots, HFC2C is launching, the City Rep pilot program. We currently have City Reps in New York City, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh so if you are interested in learning more, connecting with a City Rep in your area, or joining the City Rep team, please reach out to the HFC2C Director at firstname.lastname@example.org.
A virtual run is a walk/run/race that can be completed on your own terms. You choose the location and the time. You can run alone or with a group. You can track your miles with a mobile device or enter them manually to the event application on your mobile device or computer browser.
At this time, there is no required fundraising minimum; however, we encourage each participant to reach $200. The participant Facebook group (provided once you've completed all registration) has great tips and tricks to help accomplish this goal. Each participant hitting the $200 goal will receive a HFC2C medal!
