Growing up is a beautiful thing. Let's fight for it!
Join us in our commitment to turn childhood dreams into reality by supporting THONTM. Together, Maria and Riju are taking action by uniting with 16,500 student volunteers and over 25,000 alumni supporters in the fight against childhood cancer. Our year-long effortsculminate in a 46-hour, no-sitting, no-sleeping dance marathon each February to celebrate our survivors, remember those we’ve lost, and take a stand--all in hopes of one day dancing in celebration of a cure.
Since 1977, THON has raised over $157 millionfor Four Diamonds at Penn State Children’s Hospital, providing comprehensive care for 4,000 families and funding critical research to take this fight beyond central Pennsylvania and spread hope around the world. We work year-round to provide both financial and emotional support for our families, ensuring that they never have to face cancer alone.
I remember coming to THON 2014 when I wasn’t enrolled in Penn State yet, and was fascinated by how much hard work the students put forth for this weekend. In that moment, I knew I wanted to come to PSU and be involved in THON. I have met so many amazing people who fight for this cause and to ensure that every kid can have a chance to grow up. I am beyond excited to participate as an independent dancer couple in my final THON as a Penn State student. THON weekend is truly life changing! Seeing families and their courage to keep inspiring others THON for all the kids who are affected by this unimaginable disease and hope to stand by all my peers for 46 hours! -Riju
I’m involved with THON because it allows me to become a part of something so much bigger than myself. So many people in my life have been affected by cancer, and I remember just how special it was to us when people supported us throughout the toughest of times. This will be my fourth and final THON as a PSU student, and while I will always be back to support as an alumni, this process is definitely bitter sweet as a senior. My favorite part about THON is the final four, and family hour, because it offers a glimpse into what THON really stands for. I might be a little bias as a Penn State student, but I am so proud to work so hard for such an awesome cause. The memories I make at THON are the ones I’ll forever cherish, and while I hope one day we have to dance no more because a cure has been found, I’ll dance on until the day we do! - Maria
We have been working tirelessly all year with the hopes of being selected to dance in THON 2019. Independent Dancer Couples are dedicated individuals who set up their own fundraisers throughout the year, and with the support of friends and family, will obtain tickets in a lottery system in the hopes of earning a spot as dancers in the Penn State Dance Marathon. With your contribution, you will bring us one step closer to being able to take a stand against childhood cancer during THON Weekend 2019.
