Zeta Tau Alpha

Join us on February 15, 2019

Growing up is a beautiful thing. Let’s fight for it.

Join us in our commitment to turn childhood dreams into reality by supporting THONTM. Our Organization, Zeta Tau Alpha, is taking action by uniting with 16,500 student volunteers and over 25,000 alumni supporters in the fight against childhood cancer. Our year-long efforts culminate in a 46-hour, no-sitting, no-sleeping dance marathon each February to celebrate our survivors, remember those we’ve lost, and take a stand--all in hopes of one day dancing in celebration of a cure.

Last year, our organization raised $239,000 contributing to THON’s total of over $10 million for children battling cancer, finishing as the top Greek money raisers for the twenty third year in a row!  Now, we are asking you to join us in our efforts to support the fight.

THON’s mission is to conquer childhood cancer by providing outstanding emotional and financial support to the children, families, researchers, and staff of The Four Diamonds Fund. The Four Diamonds Fund provides financial aid to families whose children are undergoing cancer treatments at the Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital at Hershey Medical Center. In 1977, Penn State designated The Four Diamonds Fund as the sole beneficiary of THON; since then, not one family has been turned away when seeking assistance. THON has raised over $157 million for Four Diamonds at Penn State Children’s Hospital, providing comprehensive care for 4,000 families and funding critical research to take our fight beyond central Pennsylvania and spread hope around the world.

Since 1977, THON has raised over $157 million for Four Diamonds at Penn State Children’s Hospital, providing comprehensive care for 4,000 families and funding critical research to take this fight beyond central Pennsylvania and spread hope around the world. We work year-round to provide both financial and emotional support for our families, ensuring that they never have to face cancer alone.

Robby Schweitzer has been in remission since 2004 and it has been amazing to watch how he has grown over the years. We are excited to announce that he is attending classes at University Park this semester, and has become a brother of our partner organization, Alpha Tau Omega. He's looking forward to fundraising for THON and giving back to the cause that helped him and his family when he was a child.

Tucker Haas relapsed for a third time in 2007 after doctors found an inoperable tumor in his lung, however because of experimental medicine, Tucker will be declared 12 years cancer free in 2019. He is currently going into his senior year of high school and is well into his college search. Tuck has been widely involved in his high school’s mini THON where he serves on the school’s leadership committee. Tucker has become an inspiration to us and we have loved watching him grow into the man he is now.

Zach was diagnosed with stage 3 Neuroblastoma in 2009. He is now cancer free and is enjoying being a regular kid. Zach is now sixteen years old and he is excited about finally getting his driver’s license. Make sure to clear the roads!

Our youngest THON child, Kai, now seven, was diagnosed with leukemia in 2012 at the young age of 2. He responded positively to all his treatments and we are excited to announce that he finished his last chemotherapy treatment last fall! Kai is now busy playing sports, going to school and soaring a galaxy far, far away.

We also recently got paired with a new THON family in November of 2018. Her name is Joyce Ortiz and she is 17 years old. She has Ewing Sarcoma, a rare bone and muscle cancer. They needed to amputate one of her legs in October, but she recently was fitted for a prosthetic that she hopes to have by THON weekend. She is super excited to start playing soccer again. Joyce has 3 younger sisters and is a junior in high school, currently taking online classes. After graduation, she hopes to go to school to be a marine biologist. In her free time, she likes to write her own songs and is performing one of these songs at THON this year!

Through the five of them, we have learned firsthand how helpful the Four Diamonds Fund is to the treatment of these children!
